Compassionate, Evidence-Based Therapy to Help You Move Forward

The highly qualified therapists at Peaks and Valleys Therapy each hold unique additional qualifications in acute and chronic mental health concerns listed below.

ADHD

Therapy for ADHD- At Peaks and Valleys Therapy in Georgetown, we pride ourselves on supporting ADHD in all populations. If you or someone you care about is struggling with attention, focus, impulsivity, emotional regulation, etc, we’re here to help. Understanding your ADHD brain and your ADHD presentation is is an important first step toward finding the right support.

Autism
Our approach is neurodiversity-affirming, which means we don’t see autism as something to “fix,” but as a valid and important part of who you are. Instead, therapy focuses on understanding your experiences, supporting your needs, and helping you build a life that feels more comfortable and authentic.

You or your child will be supported by highly qualified therapists with specialized training and experience working with autistic individuals, offering care that is respectful, flexible, and individualized.

Neurodiversity
If you or someone in your life is neurodivergent (ADHD, ASD, OCD, FASD, etc.) traditional ways of learning, even in therapy, may not be effective for you. At Peaks and Valleys Therapy we offer differentiated Neurodivergent-Affirming mental health care to help you build upon your strengths and improve your mental health in a supportive, understanding and collaborative way.
Depression
Therapy for Depression- If you feel like you are struggling with clarity of thought (“foggy brain”), low motivation, exhaustion, lack or interest, poor focus, sleep disturbances, or irritability, you may be struggling with depression. Depression is not a weakness- it’s a mental health condition and it is treatable. If you or someone in your life is struggling with depressive symptoms, we are here to help.
Anxiety
Therapy for Anxiety- While anxiety is natural in certain instances, constant feelings of worry, fear and nervousness can be debilitating. Anxiety is treatable, and many people manage it successfully with the right tools.
Stress and Burnout
Therapy can help you manage stress and recover from burnout by providing practical tools to cope with daily pressures and emotional exhaustion. A therapist can help you identify unhelpful thought patterns, set healthy boundaries, and develop strategies to restore balance in your life. Through support and guidance, therapy can improve resilience, increase energy, and help you feel more in control, allowing you to function more effectively at work, at home, and in your relationships.
Dependency & Compulsive Behaviours
Often, the need to escape, avoid or distract oneself from the uncomfortable realities in our life can be overwhelming. Compulsions or behaviours including alcohol, marijuana and other drugs, gambling, gaming, social media, sex, etc provide welcome relief in the moment. This is not a character flaw, this is a maladaptive coping mechanism. Therapy can help us by providing strategies to retrain our brain to resist these compulsions, and guide us towards healing.
Grief
Therapy for Grief- Grief is fickle and unpredictable. It does not follow a timeline, nor does it have an expiry date. There is no right way to grieve and it may look different for everyone. Therapy can help individuals process their grief in a supported way and give you tools and strategies to help you cope and move through grief using tools that are helpful, rather than harmful.
Trauma
Trauma is the emotional and psychological response to overwhelming or distressing experiences, such as abuse, accidents, loss, or ongoing stress. It can affect how you think, feel, and function in daily life, often leading to anxiety, depression, flashbacks, or difficulty in relationships.

At Peaks and Valleys Therapy in Georgetown, we offer a supportive space to process these experiences. All of our counsellors are Registered Psychotherapists who provide trauma-informed care. We help you understand your reactions, develop healthy coping strategies, and reduce emotional distress by providing evidenced-based interventions and getting to the root of the problem.

PTSD
PTSD may develop at any age after experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event, such as abuse, accidents, violence, or loss. It can cause symptoms like flashbacks, nightmares, anxiety, emotional numbness, and feeling constantly on edge. PTSD can interfere with daily life, relationships, and overall well-being, but effective treatment is available. At Peaks and Valleys Therapy, our Registered Psychotherapists have specialised training in specific therapies that help process traumatic experiences and reduce symptoms.
Bullying
Therapy can help children, teens and even adults who have experienced bullying by giving them a safe, supportive space to process what they are going through. A therapist can help them understand their feelings, build confidence, and learn healthy ways to cope with difficult situations at school, work, or online.

Through therapy, you can learn to manage emotions like anxiety, sadness, or anger, and develop skills to help you stand up for yourself, set boundaries, and seek support. Therapy also helps challenge negative thoughts that may have developed because of bullying, supporting stronger self-esteem and a more positive sense of self.

Relationships
Therapy can help improve relationships by strengthening communication, building healthier boundaries, and increasing understanding between individuals. Whether you’re navigating conflict, trust issues, or recurring patterns in your relationships, a therapist can help you identify underlying challenges and develop practical tools to address them. Through therapy, you can learn how to express your needs more effectively, manage emotions during conflict, and create more balanced, fulfilling connections with others. At Peaks and Valleys Therapy we navigate various relationships through individual, couples and family therapy.
Child and Teen Emotional/Behavioural Concerns
Therapy can support children and teens who are experiencing emotional or behavioural challenges by providing a safe, supportive space to understand and express their feelings. A therapist can help address concerns such as anxiety, mood changes, anger, difficulty focusing, or challenges at school and home.

Through therapy, children and teens can learn healthy coping strategies, improve emotional regulation, and build stronger communication and problem-solving skills. Therapy also helps them develop confidence, resilience, and a better understanding of their thoughts and behaviours, while supporting parents and caregivers in creating a more positive and structured environment.

Divorce and Separation
Whether you are navigating separation or divorce yourself, or you are seeking support for your child through this change in family structure,, Peaks and Valleys has therapists who specialise in helping individuals through this difficult transition. Therapy can help adults, children and families navigate the emotional challenges of separation and divorce by providing a safe space to process feelings such as grief, anger, confusion, or stress. Therapy provides tools and coping strategies that improve emotional regulation, build resilience and work through concerns that may arise. Therapy also helps rebuild confidence, reduce conflict, and support a smoother transition into a new chapter of life with greater clarity and stability.
Parenting
Parents often face stress, burnout, relationship changes, and difficult decision-making, and therapy can help build the tools needed to cope more effectively. Therapy can help parents improve communication, manage stress, and develop consistent, healthy parenting strategies. Therapy can also support emotional regulation, strengthen problem-solving skills, and help parents better understand their own reactions and patterns, leading to more intentional and confident parenting.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does each therapy session last?
Individual Therapy sessions are 50 minutes.   Couples and Family Therapy Sessions are 70-75 minutes. These time frames include brief recap, admin and rebooking.
What can I expect in my first therapy session?
In your initial session, you’ll have the opportunity to share your story in a safe and confidential space. The first session is also a chance for you to get to know your therapist. The first session is more information gathering and understanding so that you and your therapist can effectively collaborate on therapeutic goals.
Is what I discuss in therapy confidential?
Confidentiality is a cornerstone of the therapeutic process. Everything discussed in therapy stays between you and your therapist, with the exception of certain ethical obligations to report, which will be explained in your first session and are outlined in your intake form.
How often should I attend therapy sessions?
Ultimately this is up to you. We recommend coming weekly for the first six weeks to build the therapeutic relationship and gain momentum in order to design a personalized therapeutic plan. From there, sessions can be adjusted according to client needs.
