FAQ’s

How long does each therapy session last?

Individual Therapy sessions are 50 minutes.   Couples and Family Therapy Sessions are 70-75 minutes. These time frames include brief recap, admin and rebooking.

What can I expect in my first therapy session?

In your initial session, you’ll have the opportunity to share your story in a safe and confidential space. The first session is also a chance for you to get to know your therapist. The first session is more information gathering and understanding so that you and your therapist can effectively collaborate on therapeutic goals.

Is what I discuss in therapy confidential?

Confidentiality is a cornerstone of the therapeutic process. Everything discussed in therapy stays between you and your therapist, with the exception of certain ethical obligations to report, which will be explained in your first session and are outlined in your intake form.

How often should I attend therapy sessions?

Ultimately this is up to you. We recommend coming weekly for the first six weeks to build the therapeutic relationship and gain momentum in order to design a personalized therapeutic plan. From there, sessions can be adjusted according to client needs.

What specialized services does Peaks and Valleys Therapy offer?

Peaks and Valleys Therapy provides specialized services which impact the neurodiverse community. These include ADHD and AuDHD support, Grief, Addiction, Trauma and Anxiety. The Peaks and Valleys owner, Allie, is herself late-diagnosed neurodivergent and is passionate about creating a place where all minds feel understood and where mental health care can work with someone’s unique brain, rather than attempt neurotypical methods. These services are tailored to meet the unique needs of individuals facing these specific challenges, offering support and therapeutic interventions designed to facilitate healing and improve quality of life. Whether you are dealing with the complexities of ADHD, navigating the effects of trauma (past or present), struggling with addiction, or navigating major life changes, our trauma-informed therapists offer affirming, compassionate and skilled support to help you heal, grow and thrive.

What do the Therapists Bring to Therapy?

All of the Psychotherapists at Peaks and Valleys Therapy are second-career therapists. We come from various other industries including education, corporate, rehabilitation, etc. We use our lived experience in our personal and professional lives and combine that with our education and experience in counselling to provide the more informed and compassionate support for our clients.
